Our Story
Founded on the principles of compassion and community support, Entembeni Old People’s Home has been a cornerstone of care in Bulawayo. We believe that our elders are the keepers of our history and wisdom, and they deserve to spend their later years in a place that feels not just like a facility, but like a true home.
What started as a modest initiative has grown into a dedicated team working tirelessly to ensure the physical, emotional, and social well-being of our residents. We are committed to fostering a family atmosphere where every resident’s unique story is honored.
Entembeni Old People’s Home was established in 1967 by a group of men who were leading the Bulawayo City Council at that time. These founders formed a trust and purchased land from the Bulawayo City Council to create a sanctuary for the elderly, specifically after discovering that many destitute individuals—largely immigrants who had come to Zimbabwe in the 1940s to work—were left without support.
Today, the institution is managed by a voluntary Board of Trustees. The facility currently focuses on geriatric care, often managing the daily challenges that come with supporting elderly residents
